Rosemarie Kukys' Comment on New Paltz (Moderated) 9-30-2026

Statement from CSEA Southern Region President Rosemarie Kukys
As a union, we are proud of the CSEA members who provide exceptional service in the Village of New Paltz. Not only is the Village a tourist and college destination, residents put down roots here because of the quality of life. That quality of life wouldn’t exist without the folks who work behind the scenes providing vital services, keeping the Village the special place that it is. Those folks include the CSEA members at the Village DPW.
Earlier this year, we announced our union’s opposition to consolidation. Our position hasn’t changed. Please know that we have been working closely with our members throughout this process and that our union stands strongly behind them. Right now, CSEA members are focused on continuing to provide the same outstanding level of service, especially as the Village enters what is arguably its busiest season of the year.
We urge all New Paltz residents to truly familiarize themselves with what’s at stake and make an informed decision in November. We appreciate everyone who has worked to make sure all voters have the facts as Election Day approaches. Our experiences across the state have shown that New Yorkers value Village services and choose to maintain them. As the Village of New Paltz continues to grow both in population and as a tourist destination, we feel that maintaining a DPW workforce within the Village is going to play a vital role in adapting to this growth.
