Impact on Taxes
Chart highlights the significant expenses which will be transferred to the Town

The above chart was constructed using the numbers contained in the Village of New Paltz 2025-2026 budget, which is available for all to read on the village website.[1] It reflects the fact that, if the referendum on consolidation, as proposed in the Joint Consolidation Agreement (JCA),[2] is adopted on November 3, 2026, all expenses associated with the Village Mayor’s office and those of the four Village trustees will be eliminated.

The total expenses of over $3 million depicted in the chart are approximate since we don’t know if the village government was able to stay within the budget they adopted in the spring; however, it does provide us with a reasonably close approximation of the expenses that will be shared by taxpayers living outside the current boundaries of the village if the referendum is passed. If you would like to know the exact amount spent by the village during the fiscal year 2025-2026, you can use this chart to ask our local government officials since it is not reported anywhere in the JCA.
